The Board of Peace, an invitation-only, U.S.-led, international organization, was created in January to oversee the Gaza ceasefire, manage reconstruction, and weigh in on global conflicts. But its mandate is far broader and more global than rebuilding Gaza, which isn’t mentioned anywhere in its founding charter. Rather, the board “seeks to promote stability, restore dependable and lawful governance, and secure enduring peace in areas affected or threatened by conflict.”

The Pew survey reflects broad trends found in similar polls, such as one from NBC News last month that found support for Israel has declined among all age groups since 2023. The sharpest decline took place among those aged 18-34, almost two-thirds of whom expressed a “negative” view of the country.

This time, it felt as if we were just about to arrive at the end of our long journey. We could sense the closeness, as if any moment we would be able to finally say those confirming words, “We’re here.” But, once again, we stopped short of the final destination.
