In memory of Dolly Parton:
I don’t recall if she confessed to be a Christian but she did display a particular quality. The following is a note I wrote to a friend. It might also be of encouragement to others.
Interviewers like Barbara Walters would ask her some of the dumbest questions and make the rudest comments about her.
She would respond humbly and gently as well as genteelly.
Without even a hint of revenge, revile or malice.
The audience realized. Hopefully, the interviewer realized that they had just been put to shame. And hopefully, we all come to realize their shame was actually their blessing. Because she was not in any way attempting to shame them. But where humility is present, the Light and Reflection of Christ radiates and shines.
The LORD made me slightly "rough around the edges” and it has served the purposes that He has placed me here to do.
So, therefore, I won’t say that I benignly envy her.
However, I will say that that quality comes about by Spiritual maturity, as Christ-likeness. And that is a good thing to have. And that is what I want. For all Believers.
So then, in my case that would be the slightly rough edges as the “Salt”. And the increase of Spiritual maturity as the “Light”.
In your case, that would be the way The LORD has Gifted you, plus the growing in Grace, love for God, along with the Spiritual maturity; which God provides. But, also for which, we must seek, covet, practice, and sometimes even wrestle.
