As we look to Revelation chapter 21 verses 9 through 27, there is found another narrative of contrasting cities — a divine revelation of the heavenly city, the New Jerusalem, juxtaposed with the fallen city of Babylon.
The context of Matthew 24:12 is Jesus speaking to His disciples after leaving Jerusalem during His Passion Week. He had sparred with the religious leaders several times in the preceding days. As He and his disciples left Jerusalem that day, Jesus responded to some of the disciples’ comments about the beauty of the Temple complex. He said that what they thought beautiful would be destroyed one day.

Society seems to be collapsing in front of our eyes. Lawlessness is the hallmark of every city, both big and small. Too many political leaders will sell their souls for money and power. One party looks the other way when an illegal immigrant kills an innocent student in Georgia.
