Anti-Semitisim

Anti-SemitismKings, pharaohs, generals, fuehrers, Moslem extremists, and more have tried to exterminate the Jews for millennia. The Bible predicts the persecution of both Jews and Christians in many Scriptural references, with an intensification in the “end-times.” The Arab world fans the flames of anti-Semitism, as well as much of Europe and even Canada.

It has become more obvious in America with the push for a Palestinian state. Many, though certainly not all, who are pushing in America for a Palestinian state, and particularly on U.S. campuses, have anti-Semitic sentiment.

Obama and 'Them Jews' - Gary Bauer - June 12

Do you remember Jeremiah Wright, the long-time pastor, mentor and spiritual guide to Barack Obama?  Obama sat in Wright's pews for more than a decade and was baptized into his church, as were both of his daughters.  All the while Wright preached a hateful mixture of black liberation theology and America-bashing, periodically spiced up with Louis Farrakhan-style anti-Semitism.

Once Wright's rants became public and threatened to derail Obama's presidential campaign, the candidate distanced himself from his pastor.  This is "not the man I knew for 20 years," candidate Obama explained to America during a high-profile press conference.

The media coverage of the Bernard Madoff scandal made extensive reference to Madoff's ethnic and religious background and his prominent role in the Jewish community. Because the scandal broke at a time of great public outcry against financial institutions, some, including Brad Greenberg in The Christian Science Monitor and Mark Seal in Vanity Fair, have reported on its potential to generate a wave of anti-Semitism.

Why the Jews?

It so happened that this week, on the day I wrote about Holocaust denial in the Middle East, a homegrown denier took a rifle into the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum -- an institution where I sit on the governing board. The museum counts about 1.7 million visitors each year who learn about the history of murderous racism -- and now one who decided to add to that history.

That day, out of curiosity, I did something I rarely do. I read the comments on my column on a number of Web sites that publish it. In addition to the normal political vituperation, the level of anti-Jewish feeling was appalling. The European genocide, some contended, was exaggerated by Jews for political purposes. Jews were behind the Bolshevik Revolution, the rise of Hitler and the outbreak of World War II. They control the newspapers, radio, television and book publishing. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is right to expose the Holocaust myth, they wrote, and Israel is perpetrating the real holocaust against the Palestinians.

"I could have wiped out all the Jews in the world, but I left a few of them so that you would understand why I would have destroyed them," reads the Arabic text on a Facebook group page praising Adolf Hitler.
A shadowy portrait of the Nazi leader stands off to the side, and at the bottom of the page "Hitler" is scrawled in English, in a font reminiscent of a Disney advertisement, as if the group were discussing Mickey Mouse or Donald Duck and not a genocidal dictator.

This example of online hate is just a sample of similar content revealed in a new report from the Simon Wiesenthal Center titled "Facebook, YouTube and How Social Media Outlets Impact Digital Terrorism and Hate," which details the size and scope of Internet hate and terror sites in 2009 and was presented to Foreign Ministry officials on Monday.

Britain is in the grip of a "virulent" new strain of anti-Semitism, according to the Chief Rabbi. Sir Jonathan Sacks told The Times in an interview that in January the number of anti-Semitic incidents reached the highest level since records began.

Jews have been physically attacked, schools targeted and cemeteries desecrated.

A disturbing number of left-wingers believe "them Jews" control the world.

But for the left, anti-Semitism makes perfect sense; almost as much sense as socialized medicine. Except for Islam (with which it's increasingly allied), the left has a near-monopoly on organized anti-Semitism.

Last month, that geriatric Jew-hater Jimmy Carter was in Gaza condemning the "devastation" wrought by Israel's military incursion to stop Hamas rocket attacks. "The citizens of Gaza are treated more like animals than people," the man who put the ayatollahs in charge of Iran intoned.

Britain has seen an unprecedented number of anti-Semitic "hate crimes", with more incidents recorded so far in 2009 than in any previous entire year, a Jewish advisory body said on Friday.

Up to the end of June, there were 609 anti-Semitic incidents ranging from verbal abuse to extreme violence, compared with 276 in the same period last year.

Blood libels against Jews have been with us from time immemorial. Last week, one occurred in a Swedish tabloid, Aftonbladet, where it was falsely claimed that Israeli troops were murdering Palestinians and harvesting their organs. Rejecting Israeli calls for official condemnation, Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt retorted that freedom of expression had to be protected and that he lacked time to edit "all strange debate contributions [emphasis added]."
